You may have noticed the complete lack of activity on our website for most of 2024. We apologize for not communicating our plans to authors and readers. Life got in the way and GAZMYK unfortunately went on the back burner for longer than planned.
We’re evaluating our options and deciding on the best path forward for GAZMYK. One change we’re definitely making is a shift from a regularly scheduled magazine to irregularly published themed anthologies. This will take some of the pressure off the team as we’ll be free to adjust our submission windows and publishing timetables as needed.
We’re also considering an adjustment to the maximum story length. If we make a change, it will mean a lower word count limit in exchange for publishing more stories in each anthology.
We haven’t set a world count target for each anthology, though it will likely fall between 10,000 and 20,000 words. We’ll select a mix of story lengths to provide some variety.
The financial model is also in flux at this point. Patreon doesn’t make sense without a consistent publishing schedule, which means we’d rely on anthology sales to cover author payments. Posting the stories online for free would probably hurt sales and prevent us from breaking even. GAZMYK is a passion project for our team, so the goal on the money front is to break even.
We dropped the word “Magazine” from our name, so now we’re just GAZMYK. Without a set publishing schedule, it didn’t make sense to continue calling this a magazine as it would be confusing.
